With ABC transistioning Monday Night Football over to ESPN, lets recall some
of the highlights (and lowlights of the Saints on MNF).

1. 1980 vs Rams- Infamous year of the baggy 'Aints. I vividly remeber
Howard Cosell bemoaning the "classless fans" who donned the paper bags.
BTW, part of that game was included in movie Poltergeist (typical of the
Saints- it would be Archie Manning throwing a pick).

2. 1990 something when Morten Anderson kicked a long 50+ yarder field goal
to get the Saints into the playoffs.

3. 1989 vs. S.F. Saints outplay the 49's most of the game, only to have
Montana engineer a late game comeback.

anyone think of any others?

My favorite memories are shots of our beautiful city at night. The
dome, riverboats, bridge & skyline.... I know millions of others were
looking. What other city does anyone think of, when all they see is one
guy blowing his sax on the corner?

forget what year this was...

it was the game with oakland raiders & saints. saints's imploded in
that game. they were leading something like 34 - 0 at the half. a
blowout right? wrong, Oakland wins at games end. I belive it was
either manning or stabler as saints quarterback.

I believe that it was 1979... because in 1978, the saints started to
play better and got the MNF game that year...

That's it. Manning at QB for the Saints, Stable at QB for the Raiders.

I remember another, better Monday Night game.

1991: Saints started out undefeated, then went on a slide as Bobby Hebert's
injury leads to Steve Walsh starting for a few games.

Then, Hebert comes back on national TV, Monday night against the Raiders.

Saints 27, Raiders 0.

That's right. ZERO.

Saints go on to the Western Division Crown.

A beautiful night.

BTW, the Saints also shut out the Vikings that year, 26-0. Two shutouts in
one year? Oh, my. I've forgotten what that feels like.

It was in the 1979 season. I distinctly remember one play when Chuck Muncie
ran the ball on a right side sweep. Just after he was handed the ball,
there was a mumbling voice saying "fumble, fumble, fumble". And Municie did
and Oakland recovered the ball. Howard Cosell even commented on that voice
before the fumble. At the time the Saints were leading big and looking to
put the game away. Weird play.
